FRANCHOT TONE: PORTRAIT OF AN URBANE REBEL by Lisa Burks will shine long overdue klieg lights on the life and career of this enigmatic actor. The book will be published by BearManor Media. (Not on their site yet because cover art is not finalized, for those who have asked.) Great news! New information and interviews with celebrities who worked with Franchot keep surfacing weekly. We have accumulated so much original, primary source material on Franchot that BearManor has asked me to split the project into two books - the biography AND a book focusing on just his films. Target publication for both remains 2010.

Welcome! I've been researching Franchot Tone's life and career since 1997, first as a hobby and then with the goal of publishing his first-ever comprehensive biography. BearManor Media will publish. I continue to find more people who knew and worked with Franchot, so the manuscript is still evolving. Updates will be posted here. Thanks to everyone who has written asking about that!

In the meantime I hope that this site will help to answer some basic questions you have about Franchot.

While the bulk of my research has been completed, I'm always interested in seeing any resource materials (candid photos, letters, contracts, memos, etc.) that exist in the private sector in regards to his personal life and career in theatre, film, radio and television. Full credit will be given to the document owners. Also, if you or someone you know worked with or knew Franchot, I'd love to hear from you and hope that you will contribute your unique insight to this book. Interested parties please contact me to set up an interview.

I'd like everyone to know that my work would not be possible without the blessing of Franchot Tone's son Pat and his family. Thank you, one and all, for your friendship and invaluable time and assistance!

Enjoy this wonderful video tribute to Franchot from YouTube.com, with the kind permission of its creator Meri McCrossin:
